Ever since I can remember, I have been making things. Sometimes sculpture, sometimes drawing, and now Jewelry. The focus is always about creating art that reflects the essence of who I am and then sharing my work. I live in Sierra Madre, California with my husband Jerry Avesian, our two Australian Shepherds Yoshi and Luigi, and our cat Mika. Now retired, I taught ceramics and art at a private high school for over 30 years . However, it is time to move on and create new stories, new art and have new adventures.
I have 3 passions, making art, being in nature (specifically the Sierra Nevada mountains of California), and practicing Yoga and Meditation. I find that all three interface in a way that nurtures and supports me. This focus is the inspiration for my drawings, my book Visual Illuminations and my newest passion Precious Metal Clay and metalworking. I find I love the process of forging, annealing and soldering silver or copper into wearable art.
I discovered drawing on black paper about 10 years ago. What I discoverd was a way to create light through my drawings. There is a wonderful contrast between the blackness of the paper, and the white Prismacolor as an under base which allows me to focus on creating light. That is the true intent of my drawings. Being in the Light! I use all kinds of images to reflect what I am feeling and experiencing in my day to day life. A lot of the images come from dreams, but often they are images that come to me after spending a day out in the garden or hiking in the local mountains.
